Using MarcEdit to combine separate files of MARC records

ebrary provides the option of getting your complete set of ebrary MARC records in batches of 5,000.  If you’d like, for example, 20,000 or 30,000 together in a file, you can use MarcEdit to combine them.  The steps are as follow.

Once you’ve downloaded in batches of 5,000 and you’ve unzipped the file, then:

1. Open MarcEdit, click on the Tools menu, then MARCJoin

2. Click on the icon of the folder with the green arrow on it


3. Name the file for the combined MARCs, then click Save


4. Click on the other folder to select the files to be joined

 

5. Select all the files to join into one, click Open

 

6. Click Process.


That’s it.  The combined MARCs will then be in the file you named at the beginning.

To check what version of Java you are running (PC)

ebrary requires Java.  To check that you have a recent version of Java:

  • Under the Windows start menu, go to Control Panel
  • Then select Programs
  • Click to open Java
  • On the General tab, click the About button
  • The installed version of Java will then display

Make sure javascript is enabled in your browser

For ebrary to work, Javascript needs to be enabled.

We’ve also written instructions specifically for Google Chrome:

1. Under the 3 bars icon, select “Settings”

2. Select “Show advanced settings”

3. Under “Privacy”, select “Content Settings”

4. Under “JavaScript”, click “Allow all…”

5. Click “Done”

 

 

Admins: Automated Holdings Management for ebrary Perpetual Access and PDA/DDA titles in ProQuest Workflow Solutions products

Your ebrary Perpetual Access and PDA/DDA holdings can be set to automatically update in:

  • Client Center
  • All 360 services
  • Ejournal Portal
  • Summon
  • Intota

Note that perpetual titles and any active PDA/DDA-discoverable titles are combined for the purposes of auto holdings update.  It is not currently an option to only auto-update one or the other (perpetual or PDA/DDA) – it is currently none or both.  And it is important not to manually edit this database in Client Center once auto-updating has been enabled.

Once the automation settings are in place, changes to your ebrary Perpetual Access and PDA/DDA holdings will be automatically loaded every night (US time), directly into Client Center and Intota.

From Client Center, holdings information will propagate to:

In Client Center, titles held by your library will have status: “Subscribed

To set up automated holdings management for your Perpetual Access and PDA/DDA titles:

1. In your Client Center Data Management profile, add the database:

Ebrary Perpetual Access, PDA, and STL, database code JJU

(note, for EBL (Ebook Library) the correct database code AZZ)

2. On the Database Details page, check the box for:

We subscribe to only some of the titles in this database

3. On Database Details page, in Custom URL field, enter your ebrary URL:

http://site.ebrary.com/lib/xxxxxx
where xxxxxx is your library’s ebrary site name

4. Email support@ebrary.com (or for EBL:  support@eblib.com) to request that your ebook site be configured to automatically send your ebook holdings to Client Center.

Consortia-provided holdings:

  • Perpetual or DDA titles on your ebrary site that are provided by an ebrary consortia parent site are included in your auto-holdings update exactly as if they were perpeutal or DDA titles that originated on your ebrary site.

Automated Holdings Management does not impact other library workflows or any functionality of your 360 and Summon services.  Examples of related activities that remain unchanged:

  • Making ebook titles discoverable via your library catalog. The workflow to add, delete, and update ebook records in your catalog remains unchanged since it takes place separately from the Automated Holdings Management process.
  • Using 360 Resource Manager Alerts for resource changes in your Client Center profile. Alerts will recognize Client Center updates made by Automated Holdings Management.
  • Using 360 Counter or 360 Resource Manager to apply costs.  The costs remain attached to resources as holdings are routinely updated through the automated program.

Custom status indicators (such as Purchased or License Negotiation) set up through a library’s 360 Resource Manager subscription currently cannot be applied to automated holdings management.

Subscriptions , such as Academic Complete, are represented as separate databases in Client Center.  These holdings are not included in the Automated Holdings Management program.

  • When you subscribe to a subscription , update your Client Center Data Management profile with the new database.

 

 

 

 

 

Duke University Press (DUP) annual digital subscription titles have moved from ebrary to a new site

Even though the DUP annual digital subscriptions have moved to a new site, all of the titles continue to be available through ebrary for perpetual access (purchase).
