Full download: troubleshooting Adobe Digital Editions errors

If full downloading with Adobe Digital Editions leads to errors such as “Error getting license – Server communication problem”, the following troubleshooting steps might resolve the problem:

Deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions

  1. Go to the library view in Adobe Digital Editions
  2. Type control-shift-d

Un-install Adobe Digital Editions
Download and re-install Adobe Digital Editions

  • Perhaps try Internet Explorer, not Firefox

Reauthorize Adobe Digital Editions

  1. Go to the library view in Adobe Digital Editions
  2. Under the Help menu, select the authorization entry

Then before trying to full-download the same book again:

  • Go to your computer’s “My Digital Editions” folder
  • Delete the .acsm file for the previously downloaded book (or delete all the .acsm files to clear out all the previously downloaded books)
  • Empty the trash to really delete it
  • Clear the browser cache and cookies for the browser you are opening ebrary and Adobe Digital Editions in, or open them in a fresh (different) browser.

On a PC?  Try using Bluefire instead of Adobe Digital Editions.

  • Bluefire can be downloaded free from the web.

Important note!  Notes made in downloaded files are not retained after the download expires or is returned.

  • Adobe Digital Editions and Bluefire treat each download of the same book as a brand-new download, completely separate from any previous downloads of that book.
