An Adobe ID – what it’s needed for and how to get one

You need an Adobe ID to open a downloaded ebook via Adobe Digital Editions (on a computer), Bluefire (on a device), or using any other Adobe DRM compatible reader.

To create an Adobe ID:

  1. Go to https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/index.cfm
  2. Click “Get Adobe ID” and follow the prompts

To use the same copy of a downloaded ebook on multiple computers/devices, the reader (e.g., Adobe Digital Editions, Bluefire, etc.) on each computer/device needs to be authorized with the same Adobe ID.

To deauthorize an Adobe account in Adobe Digital Editions:

  1. Go to the library view in Adobe Digital Editions
  2. Type control-shift-d

To authorize an Adobe account in Adobe Digital Editions:

  1. Go to the library view in Adobe Digital Editions
  2. Under the Help menu, select “Authorize computer…
  3. For “eBook Vendor”, select “Adobe ID
  4. Then enter you personal Adobe ID and password

To authorize/deauthorize an Adobe account in Bluefire:

  1. Click on the “Info” icon at the bottom right
  2. Follow the prompts
